Sentosa will soon be a cooler place to visit. Singapore’s island playground has unveiled the Cooling Sentosa Roadmap, which will tap technological and nature-based solutions to enhance guest experience on the island.
Central to the roadmap is the Sentosa Cooling Network, which will plant a series of nodes and zones – think shade and canopies, fans and coolers, and hydration points – to bring the temperature down by at least 4°C. At least 10 of these will be installed before 2030.
A trial of the roadmap has been rolled out at Siloso Beach, where a public area has been painted with Nippon Paint COOL-TEC cool coating, a misting system attached, and increased shade for guests.
Island partners including Resorts World Sentosa, Mount Faber Leisure Group, Raffles Sentosa Singapore, and Sofitel Hotel Sentosa Singapore are among the forerunners committing to the roadmap.
According Lee Shi Ruh, CEO, Resorts World Sentosa, outdoor areas such as WEAVE and Universal Studios Singapore at the integrated resort already boasts advanced solutions – from ETFE roofing and high-performance glass that minimise solar heat, to heat pump cooling technology, jet fans and high-volume-low-speed fans that circulate fresh, chilled air.
“These technologies not only enhance comfort in our spaces, but also align with Sentosa’s broader vision of a smarter, more sustainable destination for all to enjoy,” said Lee.
