Taipei has emerged as the destination cyclists want to see more than any other this year.

Research by adventure travel company Explore Worldwide, based on Google search data from the last two years, says the Taiwanese capital leads a must-bike list dominated by countries in Asia.

A surge in interest in cycling Taipei has been driven by cycle routes along the Tamsui River, or the hilly terrains that surround the city.

Cyclists can explore the streets of Taipei, ride along Sun Moon Lake, or embark on the East Coast route, “showcasing Taiwan's natural beauty and cultural richness”.

Another cycling hotspot is Phnom Penh which Explore Worldwide says, offers “a journey through history and culture. From the bustling city corners to the serene outskirts, each pedal brings a unique story”.

Ho Chi Minh City has also emerged as a top cycling destination where “the city's energy is palpable” and the surrounding countryside “offers a peaceful contrast, with scenic routes through rice paddies and traditional villages”.

The top trending destinations for cyclists, according to Explore Worldwide’s research are, in order: Taipei, Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City, Auckland, Khao Lak, Shanghai, Hanoi, Buenos Aires and Santiago.

Taipei also takes top spot for the rise interest in bike tours, ahead of Albania, Samoa, Japan and Vietnam.
