Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas has an unconventional addition to its crew — a Chief Dog Officer.

The six-month-old golden retriever, named Rover, has embarked on a maritime escapade alongside chief of staff Alison Hubble, spreading tail-wagging joy among both crew and passengers.

Rover's responsibilities extend beyond the ordinary doggy duties; the five-month-old pup is set to rub paws with the captain on the bridge and engage in daily activities across the sprawling ship.

There will be a lot for Rover to explore onboard. Weighing in at an impressive 250,800 tonnes and stretching 365 metres in length, the Icon of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world. It set off on its inaugural voyage on 27 January, offering week-long cruises to hotspots like Costa Maya, Cozumel, Philipsburg, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Basseterre, and Roatan.

Rover will also be exploring Caribbean shores and postcard-worthy ports during Icon of the Seas' maiden season.

“Rover's job is to bring joy and happiness to her fellow crew and guests onboard,” a video posted on Instagram by Royal Caribbean said. “Rover has already made herself at home.”
