Viking has successfully completed its inaugural domestic cruise in China catering to international guests. The voyage, which ran from Shanghai to Shenzhen (for Hong Kong), took place aboard the China-flagged Viking Yi Dun, previously known as Viking Sun. The ship has been part of a joint venture operating in China for several years.

Last year, Viking began promoting these domestic cruises to international markets, and the debut journey received a warm welcome at various ports, including Zhoushan, Dongtou, Pingtan, Xiamen, and Shenzhen.

"For 15 years, we introduced China to guests on our Yangtze River itineraries. Now, we are proud to offer these exclusive domestic sailings in China, and we look forward to welcoming people to this part of the world in the Viking way," said Torstein Hagen, Viking chairman and CEO.

Passengers provided positive feedback on their experiences during the cruise. One guest, Paul S., noted, "It is the support of the Viking team that has enabled us to move through this door into China and experience it. The experience has been so wonderful both on and off [the ship]. I feel really privileged, and I’m going back more curious in many ways."

Looking ahead, Viking has announced new Asia voyages for 2025, scheduled from September through November, featuring itineraries that include Japan and Tibet via overland and air travel.
