In a move to enhance facilities and elevate passenger experience, Singapore Cruise Centre (SCC) is set to invest S$20 million (US$15 million) in the modernisation of Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal (TMFT). The project, scheduled from January to December 2024, aims to keep ferry services operational without disruptions.

The renovation includes the introduction of self-service kiosks for check-in, bag drop, and boarding, utilising automated gates and the Cruise and Ferry Operation System (CFOS).

The terminal's interior will undergo a redesign, adopting a sleek black-and-white theme to optimise space and create a more expansive departure area. Additional features encompass new food and beverage outlets, an outdoor children's play area, and upgraded lounges.

Jacqueline Tan, CEO of SCC, emphasised the timely nature of the upgrades as TMFT continues to serve as a crucial gateway to destinations like Batam, Bintan, Desaru Coast, and Tanjung Pengelih. The terminal's capacity is expected to increase by 20%, facilitating a seamless, contactless passenger journey for the anticipated three million passengers in the future.

Construction, starting in March, will be phased to minimise passenger inconvenience. TMFT, one of SCC's four terminals, serves over a million passengers annually, connecting Singapore to the Riau Islands and Malaysia. The completion of the upgrade is anticipated to significantly boost productivity and efficiency by the end of 2024.
