On 18 September 2024, Disney Cruise Line marked a significant milestone with the commencement of sea trials for its newest ship, the Disney Treasure, after 21 months of construction.

Prior to testing, the 144,000-ton Triton-class vessel underwent a complex conveyance through Germany’s Ems River, which connects the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg to the North Sea. This operation involved repositioning the ship with its stern facing forward, allowing a tug boat to guide it along the waterway.

As the Disney Treasure began its 20-mile journey to Eemshaven, Netherlands, fireworks lit up the sky, while spectators along the banks cheered and waved. The ship’s exterior features characters such as Captain Hook, Peter Pan, and Minnie Mouse.

The Disney Treasure promises themed experiences inspired by films including Aladdin, Coco, and Zootopia, alongside attractions from Disney parks. Notable venues include a Haunted Mansion bar and a Jungle Cruise-themed lounge, as well as the Scat Cat Lounge, themed after The Aristocats.

Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Cruise Line, stated, “The Treasure will bring brand-new stories to life, blending one-of-a-kind experiences with extraordinary entertainment, world-class dining and unparalleled hospitality.”

The Disney Treasure is part of a broader expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, which also includes the Disney Destiny, Disney Adventure, and a new ship set to sail from Japan. Four additional ships were announced at this year’s D23 fan event, increasing the fleet total to 13. Next to come will be the Disney Adventure, slated to sail from Singapore in 2025.
