Carnival Cruise Line is turning the music down on its ships – Bluetooth speakers will no longer be allowed onboard.

Passenger bringing portable speakers onboard will have them confiscated and returned at the end of the voyage, the company said.

Carnival offered few reasons for the ban but it is believed that it was introduced following complaints from some passengers about the disturbance loud music caused to those having a quiet afternoon nap on deck.

Also, women are banned from topless bathing on the sundeck, although this ban is nothing new according to John Heald, brand ambassador and senior cruise director of Carnival Cruise Lines.

Heald has quashed rumours that topless bathing is to be reintroduced on Carnival Horizon after a mother expressed concern for her two young sons and the effect the sight of bare boobs might have on them during an upcoming cruise.

Heald responded on his Facebook column, “Topless sunbathing is of course something we used to have on our ships 20 plus years ago.

“Back then, all our ships had topless sunbathing decks and for the most part the guests seemed to enjoy it and certainly didn’t feel a sense of shock and horror because we had a place where our female guests could get an all over tan.

“Not anymore. None of the major cruise lines have a topless deck except our friends on AIDA and their stunning ships.”

However, Heald might have forgotten that Virgin Voyages also allows topless bathing. According to the cruise company’s website, “We have a beautiful sun deck on Deck 17, called The Perch, where you can feel comfortable sunbathing topless at sea.”
