Cambodia’s tourism sector is making a remarkable comeback, rebounding to pre-pandemic levels with 6.7 million international arrivals in 2024, surpassing its 2019 figure of 6.61 million.
At the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2025 in Johor, Cambodia unveiled its vision to capture a larger share of ASEAN’s 123 million regional arrivals through a sustainability-focused tourism strategy. This includes expanding nature-based experiences, enhancing connectivity, and supporting small businesses that promote responsible travel practices.
Fast tracks and easy access
According to Sam Ath Ouk, deputy director of the overseas marketing and promotion department at the Ministry of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the country’s infrastructure developments are making travel more seamless. “Cambodia’s newly developed infrastructure, including upgraded airports, expressways, and the introduction of a digital e-arrival form, is making travel more seamless and accessible for international visitors,” she said.

The Techo International Airport, set to launch in 2025, will strengthen regional connectivity, while new expressways, such as the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway linking the capital to Ho Chi Minh City, are designed to improve access to popular and emerging destinations. The e-arrival form, introduced in July 2024, further streamlines entry procedures for international travellers.
Eco adventures await in Cambodia
With rising demand for community-driven and outdoor experiences, Cambodia is highlighting its rich biodiversity and unspoilt landscapes as major draws. “Activities such as hiking in the Cardamom Mountains, wildlife conservation experiences, and immersive village stays offer travellers an authentic way to engage with local communities while promoting environmental preservation,” added Ath Ouk.
The government is also working to enhance direct flight connectivity to key ecotourism hubs and revising tourism policies to promote responsible visitation. A revamp of the Cambodia Tourism Marketing and Promotion Board aims to strengthen public-private collaboration, ensuring sustainability remains central to the country’s long-term tourism vision.
