Few destinations do festivals and celebrations like Macao. After all, this Special Administrative Region of China (SAR) boasts a blend of Portuguese colonial heritage and modern Chinese metropolitan lifestyle that has given it a unique cultural heritage. And while visitors to Macao already have plenty to explore, nothing elevates a trip like participating in a local festival or event.
From foodie feasts and motorsport races to international marathons and street operas, travel agents can leverage these events in Macao — and their industry connections — to give visitors fresh insights into Macao’s distinct way of life.
1. Chinese New Year: Tradition meets modernity
January/February | 2-3 weeks
In Macao, Chinese New Year is a time when tradition meets modernity. Visitors to the city will be treated to mesmerising dragon and lion dances, dazzling fireworks displays, and an annual parade.
This also means plenty of events and promotions for tourists.
For instance, MGM COTAI welcomed 2024’s Year of the Dragon with a “Tales of Auspicious Dragon” guided art tour, as well as a lively fair at the historical Barra district featuring local snacks, a pop-up bar at night, floral workshops, and games.

Be part of a global celebration at the Macao International Parade, where cultures from around the world converge in a dazzling procession of music, dance, and spectacle. Tourists can witness colourful floats, elaborate costumes, and dynamic performances representing diverse nations and traditions, even outside of the main event: for this year’s parade, Studio City hosted performances by groups from Europe and South America, who also interacted with visitors around the resort.
4. Macao Arts Festival: Cultural extravaganza
May-June
Delve into a world of creativity and inspiration at the Macao Arts Festival, a premier cultural event that celebrates the city’s exceptional artistic heritage.
