SINGAPORE - Singapore added two more feathers to its cap on becoming the Events Capital of Asia by winning two awards from the prestigious International Festivals and Events Association.

The annual Singapore Food Festival and World Gourmet Summit (WGS) won Gold awards at the IFEA Convention in Las Vegas, yesterday.

The IFEA’s Pinnacle Awards are in recognition of outstanding events and it assesses more than 3,000 events across the world.

Singapore was the first Asian nation to have won the Pinnacle awards in 2000 and its victory in two successive years is “sound testimony of Singapore’s world-class standards,” the Singapore Tourism Board said.

“This achievement is certainly a boost to the local tourism industry,” said STB’s chief executive Yeo Khee Leng.

WGS 2001 clinched the Gold Award in the Grand Pinnacle category. This year’s win by the WGS surpassed its Silver Award-winning performance in the same category the year before. The Summit also won the Best New Event (Within an Existing Festival) category for its Themed Masterchef Safaris.

With the success of WGS 2001, and the victory of MillenniaMania the previous year, Singapore becomes the only Asian country to have won the Gold Award in the IFEA Grand Pinnacle Awards for two consecutive years.
