Dubai had edged out one of Australia’s iconic beaches in a survey of the world’s best beach destinations suitable for family tourism.

Dubai’s beaches ranked second in the world behind Guanacaste Province in Costa Rica and ahead of the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.

The report by travel insurance comparison site, InsureMyTrip, looked at everything from average sea temperatures, the cost of water activities and attractions, cleanliness of the beaches and safety of the seas.

The Beach at Jumeirah Beach Residence and Sunset Beach in Umm Suqeim, where the view of the Burj Al Arab hotel is a favourite for photos and selfies, were among Dubai’s highly-rated beaches.
