The couple were unaware of the Iranian law which bans drone flights without a licence,– Manoto TV editor, Pouria Zeraati
PERTH: An Australian couple on a world tour have been imprisoned in Iran since July after being arrested close to the capital, Tehran.
The pair have been blogging a globe-trotting adventure since 2017 during a drive from Australia to London.
The editor of the Persian-language broadcaster Manoto TV, Pouria Zeraati, said on Twitter a source had told him the couple had been arrested “for flying a drone near the capital, Tehran”.
The couple were blogging their travels on YouTube and Instagram. Dozens of videos and photographs posted online appear to have been shot using a drone, according to The Guardian Australia.
The couple run a YouTube channel called The Way Overland, however their last video, episode 60, was posted more than 11 weeks ago, in June this year, while driving through Pakistan.
“The couple were unaware of the Iranian law which bans drone flights without a licence,” Zeraati said online.
On a plan listed on their blog, the couple said they would drive from their home in Perth to London in a Toyota Landcruiser they converted into a mobile home.
