BANGKOK - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is in negotiations with Thailand's travel industry to develop attractive packages for well-heeled Indian tourists.

Deputy governor of the TAT, Surapol Svetasserani said TAT was talking to the Thai Hotels Association (THA), Thai travel agents and Thai Airways International (THAI) about the packages.

Around 30 Thai tour operators have already agreed to join the programme, said Surapol.

The TAT is projecting more Indian tourists will travel to Thailand this year than in 2002.

Around 253,000 Indians visited the country last year, up 22 percent from 2001.

Surapol said TAT is also planning to set up a representative office in New Delhi before the end of the year.

In addition, THAI will introduce direct flights from Bangkok to Bangalore and Madras.
