The Asian PGA’s Davidoff Tour and the European Tour have agreed to hold a new tournament, the Singapore Masters, in the tropical city-state from February 22-25, 2001.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB), which is helping to sponsor the event for an undisclosed sum, said the tournament would attract more golfers to Singapore and the region.

"Hosting a joint sanctioned event between Europe and Asia is tremendous recognition for the Lion City," said STB chief executive Yeo Khee Leng.

"We have a wealth of world-class facilities and sporting infrastructure to host international events and we are fully committed to its success."
