16 October 2002SINGAPORE - The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has decided that the three pilots involved in the SQ006 accident at Taipei's Chiang Kai Shek airport on October 31, 2000, can begin the process to have their licences reinstated.
The pilots will have to undergo and pass a rigorous programme of medical and psychological assessments conducted by the Civil Aviation Medical Board in Singapore, as well as extensive flight re-training and subsequent flight tests.
CAAS' decision was based upon the recommendations of a panel of experts, after studying the investigation report by Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council and the analysis report of the Singapore Ministry of Transport's investigation team.
The panel reviewed the facts of the case and interviewed the pilots, and concluded after a thorough evaluation that the pilots did not contravene any regulation or operational procedures that would require or justify the continued suspension of their licences.
