Sands China Ltd. has surpassed 1.1 billion cumulative visitors across its properties in Macao, marking a major milestone in its more than 20 years of development in the city.

The company held a welcome ceremony at The Venetian Macao on Thursday to celebrate its 1.1 billionth guest, coinciding with the property’s 18th anniversary. Dr Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd., and Grant Chum, the company’s chief executive officer and executive director, presented commemorative surprises to the milestone visitor.

Sands China began operations in 2004 with the opening of Sands Macao, the city’s first large-scale hotel and entertainment complex. In 2007, The Venetian Macao opened as the world’s second-largest building at the time, pioneering integrated resorts on the Cotai Strip. Subsequent developments included The Plaza Macao in 2008, Sands Cotai Central in 2012 (now The Londoner Macao), and The Parisian Macao in 2016.

“Surpassing 1.1 billion arrivals is not only a significant milestone for the company, but also a testament to the popularity of Macao's tourism offerings and the vitality and sustainability of its economic development,” said Dr Wong. He credited the support of the central and SAR governments, 27,000 team members, and more than 2,500 suppliers.

Sands China has invested over MOP 134.5 billion (US$16.77 billion) in Macao, developing more than 10,000 hotel rooms, 150 dining options, and 760 retail outlets. Its integrated resorts also host a meetings and conventions centre spanning 150,000 square metres, along with two arenas and four theatres with a combined seating capacity of over 25,000.
