A forensics probe is ongoing after fires damaged a building at The Andaman, a five-star, 178-room resort in Langkawi.
Two separate fires within 10 hours of each other this week destroyed the block but there were no casualties. It took firefighters more than 12 hours to bring the blaze under control. A kitchen, lobby and dining area were badly damaged by the fire.
The Andaman owner Landmarks has begun discussions with super-luxury hotel designer Jean-Michel Gathy to help guide the rebuild and repositioning of the damaged property, according to a report by The Edge Markets.
In the meantime, the hotel will close temporarily, and reservations are not being accepted.
Landmarks is a prominent player in the resort and wellness sector. Developments include Treasure Bay on Bintan island.
