Preferred Hotels & Resorts has promoted Jonathan Newbury to executive vice president of Asia Pacific.
Recently relocated from Chicago to Singapore with his family, Newbury's new role will see him driving the strategic direction and evolution of the Preferred brand in Asia Pacific, retaining the more than 150 member properties across the region and overseeing the company’s associates who are based in offices across 10 cities.
Newbury brings 30 years of international independent hotel experience to his new position, including stints at Small Luxury Hotels of the World, VIP SKI which operates luxury chalets, hotels, and resorts across the French and Austrian Alps, The Langham Hotels and Resorts, and Thistle Hotel brands.
Since joining the company in 2008, Newbury has served as vice president of brand development and most recently as senior vice president of strategic development. Newbury's portfolio included global hotel owners, operators, asset managers, and management companies. He also championed development projects that resulted in a 20% growth in the brand’s hotel portfolio over the past decade.
And in the past seven years, Newbury's focused education movement aimed at highlighting Preferred’s performance on behalf of its member hotels compared to that of its franchise brand competitors won over nearly 100 properties to go independent with Preferred Hotels & Resorts as their brand partner.
“Throughout his 12-year tenure, Jonathan has been a key driver behind our global development efforts, strengthening how we position the Preferred brand and innovating our approach to appeal to new types of hotel partners,” said Lindsey Ueberroth, CEO of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, who added that the company still sees "opportunities for growth in the region".
