Resort operator Club Med has made three leadership appointments in Asia Pacific as part of a reorganisation into two specialised business units.

The new APAC regional organisation, which includes Greater China, Japan, Korea, India, South East Asia and the Pacific, is effective from July 1.

Xavier Desaulles will be heading the new APAC markets unit as CEO. Based in Shanghai, he will lead the commercial teams across Greater China, Japan, Korea, South East Asia and Pacific markets. Desaulles was previously CEO of the East and South Asia Pacific (ESAP) markets since 2016.

Jean-Charles Fortoul, CEO of APAC resorts, will be leading the operations and development of the resorts across APAC, and will also be based in Shanghai.

With over 18 years of experience in the hospitality industry, he has held several leadership roles at Club Med since 2002, managing various markets across Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. He previously served as VP of operations for East and South Asia & Pacific and VP of sales emerging countries of South East Asia.

Vijay Sharma has been appointed general manager of Southeast Asia, and will be responsible for Club Med’s sales and marketing strategies in the region. Sharma was previously country director for Singapore and Malaysia, where he was instrumental in identifying key growth strategies for both markets.

Gino Andreetta, who is currently CEO of Greater China will move to Lyon, France as of September 2019 to lead the Europe, Africa and France (EAF) Resorts as CEO.

“Club Med is in a growth acceleration phase with the openings of three to five resorts per year,” said Henri Giscard d’Estaing, president, Club Med.

“This significant moment in our development requires us to focus on our growth drivers – sales and marketing to drive brand preference amongst consumers, and to accelerate the opening of new resorts and strengthen the in-resort guest experience across APAC,” said d’Estaing.
