SYDNEY - Gunnedah, the country town 440km northwest of Sydney, Australia, touts itself as the Koala Capital of the World because of the large population of marsupials that make the abundant eucalyptus trees their home. Now the good people of Gunnedah have found a novel way of cashing in on their furry neighbours, and that is to sell their droppings to tourists. The poop costs A$1 a pop. Available at the town's visitor's centre, it comes in a small plastic sheath holding a card with a koala dropping stuck to it. The card also carries a greeting from Gunnedah. According to reports, the most prolific producer of poop is a female koala that has been perched in a red river gum tree near the visitor's centre. For the past three years staff has been collecting her poop, drying them before transferring them to the greeting card. Lesson learnt? Even poop can bring in money if you put some thought into it.
