Grand staircase, Royal Plaza on Scotts.
The View: Singapore new and old.  The modern day city skyline dominates, with the heritage-listed Goodwood Park Hotel squeezed behind Orchard Road’s shopping emporiums.

First Impressions: Plenty of wow factor here. The recently renovated hotel foyer is light, airy, colourful and unfolds like a grand ocean-going liner thanks to its opulent twin staircases.  And all this before you look up to see the gold and crimson colours of the foyer’s centrepiece chandelier – representing a rare orchid.

And if you pick up the scent of leaves, it’s Royal Plaza’s nod to the Garden City. RP on Scotts is fully smoking-free – so you can really enjoy the leaf-scented air.

The Location: For those who want to be at the centre of Singapore’s high-end shopping action, RP on Scotts is perfectly located.  There are plenty of changes going on in Orchard Road and they’re all within easy walking distance of the hotel.

The Room: Recent renovations have given rooms extra zing thanks to pop out colours – fire-engine red for deluxe rooms, cobalt blue for premier rooms and sunflower yellow for Royal Club rooms. Along with perks like Nespresso coffee and free in-room minibar, Royal Plaza on Scotts offers free unlimited data on a pocket wi-fi that connects up to five devices at high speed.

The Service: Unobtrusive. Friendly, with great attention to detail.

Memorable Moment: The newly renovated Carousel restaurant buzzes with customers filling up from 17 different culinary stations, including a seafood extravaganza and Brazilian churrasco. Leave room for the ice cream station, which offers flavours that include kaya toast and salted egg yolk.

Final word: Royal Plaza on Scotts is a member of Preferred Hotels and Resorts that annually recognises member hotels that take the meaning of genuine hospitality beyond their front doors, “by showcasing an outstanding commitment to philanthropy, community, sustainability, and education as part of its GIFTTS (Great Initiatives for Today’s [Tomorrow’s] Society) programme”.

With more than 75 properties nominated in 2019 for their efforts in the four GIFTTS categories, the over winner of the GIFTTS Pineapple Awards was Royal Plaza on Scotts.
