Park Hotel Group has signed a hotel management contract with a subsidiary of Jaya Mapan Sdn. Bhd. to launch Park Hotel Melaka.
This comes after an 18-month negotiation and is the group’s first foray into Malaysia.
At the signing ceremony, Allen Law, chief executive, Park Hotel Group, said, “Over the last 10 years, Malaysia’s international arrivals have increased from 16 to 26 million visitors. The government has also been very active in promoting tourism.
“Without a doubt, Malaysia has tremendous growth potential, and Melaka, as an historical city and a Unesco World Heritage site, will receive increased visits as it continues to develop.”
Based in Melaka, Jaya Mapan Sdn. Bhd. focuses on property development in residential, commercial and retail sectors, while specialising in mixed-use developments.
The 245-room new build hotel will be located in the heart of Kota Laksamana’s entertainment and business district, 90 minutes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport and 10 minutes from Melaka Sentral bus and taxi terminal.
It will be part of The Green, a mixed-use development that also comprises retail outlets, shop offices and serviced apartments.
Of its plans to expand, Law said that the Group will “not be overly aggressive” and estimates around “2-3 new hotels in a year” with a major focus on Asia Pacific.
Also, Park Hotel Group has just opened its 17th global sales office in Korea, according to Mohd K Rafin, chief corporate officer, Park Hotel Group. He hinted at a property there in the near future, without going into details.
