Jumeirah’s group chief development officer Shafi Syed told the South China Morning Post that the Dubai-based company has 10 Asia-Pacific projects in the pipeline, eight of which are in China.
China is set to have more hotels in the Jumeirah’s portfolio than any other country aside from Dubai.
Jumeirah’s group chief development officer Shafi Syed told the South China Morning Post that the Dubai-based company has 10 Asia-Pacific projects in the pipeline, eight of which are in China.
The company has hotels planned for Sanya, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Haikou, Macau, Qiandouhu, and Wuhan.
Jumeirah Nanjing, which was designed by acclaimed British designer, the late Zaha Hadid, will be launching in the second quarter next year, making it the company’s second China-based hotel after it opened in Shanghai in 2011.
“It’ll be one of the tallest buildings in Nanjing and so will be quite iconic. I’m sure it will make some headlines when it does open,” Syed told the Post.
“Our Chinese customer profile has grown significantly from the time we opened. We see the [Chinese] sector growing in the near future,” he said.
Syed said unique takes on food options and personalisation in hotel experiences are "growing trends" in the Chinese hotel industry and these elements are "already part of the hotel group’s DNA”.
Last year, over 176,000 Chinese guests visited Jumeirah hotels outside China.
Jumeirah currently operates 22 hotels, resorts and residences, including 11 in the Middle East, six in Europe and five in Asia. A further 17 hotels are now under development.
