As Hongkongers turn to staycations in local hotels to satisfy their pent-up demand for a holiday, hotels in the city have been quick to extend the staycation invite to dog lovers and their four-legged family members.
The inclusion of pets in hotel promotions mean owners no longer have to find a dog-sitter or book kennels, while their furry friends also get to enjoy exclusive treats alongside their humans during their staycations.
In the spirit of post-Covid norm, cleanliness is a priority when the Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour Hong Kong recently rolled out A Centric Dogcation package, which includes dog amenities such as odour and stain remover anti-bacterial sprays, cleaning towels, wipes and sanitiser.
In addition, Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour Hong Kong ensures that sanitisers in use at the property are animal safe, while their multi-purpose disinfectant formula will purify the air, eliminate odours and prevent bacteria and virus spread for the next guests, Tess Leung, the hotel's marketing communications manager told Travel Weekly Asia.
“We all love dogs and support animal rights,” said Leung. “We came up with this idea when we saw the guests’ enquiries about bringing their dog for a staycation at the hotel. We launched the dogcation on July 1, and have received great exposure in the media and on social media, and guest feedback of the experience was also very positive.”
The package, which is open to medium-sized dogs weighing up to 30kg, treats these furry pets to elevated luxury at Hyatt Centric. There’s a designated floor for dogs, and an elevator that whisks them up to the hotel’s Upper Farm doggy playground where the pets can roam free on the grass.
Dogs do not receive any lesser treatment at the Alva Hotel by Royal, whose Pawsome Dogcation Package features not only the usual amenities but also an hour’s pet photography at Venture Studio with a photo frame memento, among other gifts. The hotel has pet-friendly cleaning agents for the carpets and furniture in Dogcation guest rooms.
Dogs staying at the property must be 10kg or less, as is hanging out in the alfresco areas of the hotel such as The PitStop on the first floor and The Terrace on the third floor, the same level as rooms allocated for Dogcation guests, said Glynis Chan, director of communications at Alva Hotel by Royal.
With its location in Shatin, surrounded by greenery, fun walks along the nearby Shing Mun River is a popular activity for guests and their dogs, while the hotel also offers plenty of recommendations for local dog-friendly eateries, the dog park at the new Waterfront Promenade and the dog-friendly mall Harbour North, which offers a dog stroller for tired pooches.
Clearly, there's no shortage of deals and promotions targeting dog lovers and their pampered pooches in Hong Kong.
At both Ovolo Southside and Ovolo Central, the brand’s V.I.Pooch is a ‘bed ‘n biscuits’ offer complete with doggie bed, mat, bowl and of course toys and treats – for dogs and humans.
Elsewhere in the city, guests can bring their dogs for an indulgent Pawsome Staycation at The Murray, and from August a new dogcation promotion will start at the stylish Rosewood Hong Kong.
