SYDNEY - In a surprise move today, Tourism Australia has announced that managing director Scott Morrison will be quitting the organisation within days.
Morrison was behind the controversial “Where the Bloody Hell Are You” advertising campaign, which Tourism Australia claims has been a success in creating awareness of Australia’s tourism attractions.
Morrison has been in the A$350,000 a year job for less than two years and his departure comes after Tourism Australia recently reorganised its structure in Asia.
Greg McAllan, regional general manager for Asia, leaves the organisation after 20 years of service. His position has been made redundant in the reorganisation that sees the region split in two – North Asia and South Asia.
Johnny Nee is the new regional general manager North Asia, covering China, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Nee, based in Hong Kong, will report directly to director, global operations, Richard Beere.
South Asia will become part of a new Australasia region that will include New Zealand and the Gulf Countries as well as India, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
Maggie White, currently regional manager for South Asia, based in Singapore, has yet to disclose if she will accept the offer of regional general manager, based in Sydney.
