Singapore's national flower now has a permanent home at the Gardens by the Bay, following a major revamp that now allows more than 1,000 orchids on display at once.
Located at the Cloud Forest, the 280sqm Orchid Haven will feature both changing orchid displays — typically hailing from Central and South America to East Asia — as well as permanent orchid exhibits.
The Orchid Haven is three times larger than the former area for changing orchid displays.
The first changing orchid display on show is Flight of the Moth Orchid, paying tribute to the Phalaenopsis orchid which resembles a moth in flight.
More than 800 Phalaenopsis orchids have been arranged in a cascading 'waterfall' to educate visitors on the flower's evolution — which breeders have coaxed out of hybrids, also a nod to Singapore’s orchid industry’s history of orchid hybridisation successes.
