Travelport has launched a feature providing clearer carbon dioxide (CO2) emission estimates for flights on its platform, Travelport+.

These estimates utilise the publicly accessible Travel Impact Model (TIM), developed by Google in partnership with the Travalyst coalition. It's the initial step in Travelport's broader initiative to aid agents, travel managers, and travellers in making eco-conscious travel choices.

The move addresses inconsistencies in carbon emissions data presented across various booking channels. Travelport aims to enhance transparency and consistency by adopting a publicly available data framework that considers factors such as carbon emissions, environmental certifications, and sustainability efforts when displaying travel options.

Travel retailers on Travelport can now easily compare CO2 estimates per flight and passenger, considering factors like aircraft type and distance, allowing for informed, environmentally responsible choices. These enhancements are accessible through Smartpoint, Trip Quote, and the Travelport API Suite.
