Airlines love to promote celebrity chefs with their specially curated menus, usually for business and first-class passengers.
Think Matt Moran with Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways’
collaboration with Asia’s renowned Chef Ton, featuring Thai-inspired
signature dishes on routes between Thailand and Doha.
Heston Blumenthal briefly hopped onboard with British Airways, while
Gordon Ramsey – who once vowed he would never eat aircraft food – was an
advisor to Singapore Airlines for a decade.
These haute cuisine partnerships with celebrity chefs aim to improve
the reputation of inflight meals and have been mostly successful.
Now China Airlines has come up with something different to tempt passengers’ taste buds – bread.
Not any old bread, though, the Taiwan-based carrier, has partnered
with Yao-hsun Chen of Yoshi Bakery to bring his world champion bread
onboard.
The bread developed exclusively for China Airlines by Chen will be
served in all cabin classes on all flights departing from Taiwan,
“demonstrating the carrier's tireless pursuit of innovation and
breakthroughs in in-flight catering”.
Business Class will serve the Strawberry Bread and Sweet Potato
Cheese Bread on a rotating basis. Strawberry Bread was Yao-hsun Chen's
championship-winning work at the Mondial du Pain.
“Star-rated gourmet meals, Japanese banquet cuisine, original
desserts to in-flight bread are turning every flight into a feast in the
skies,” China Airlines said.
