Minister for Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Liow was in Japan as part of Malaysia Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s official visit to the country earlier this
week.
Presently Japan Airlines service this route,
flying seven times a week to Kuala Lumpur.
Liow said discusion was also ongoing for landing
rights for Malaysia Airlines (MAS) at Tokyo’s Haneda international airport.
MAS now flies to Narita International Airport
with 10 weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur and three times from Kota Kinabalu
(Sabah), as well as a weekly flight to Kanzai Airport in Osaka.
Liow revealed that MAS wanted to fly to Haneda
as it had a higher passenger load due to its proximity to Tokyo.
Currently only AirAsia X, the longhaul budget
arm of AirAsia, flies to Haneda with seven weekly flights.
