KUALA LUMPUR - AirAsia, Malaysia’s no frills, low cost carrier, will fly to Indonesia next month, its second international destination after Thailand. AirAsia will start daily services from Johor Bahru to Jakarta from April 10, Kuala Lumpur to Bandung on April 12, and Kuala Lumpur to Surabaya on April 15. In conjunction with the launch AirAsia will offer 15,000 seats at promotional launch fares. They are from Rp99,999 (US$11.69) one way from Johor Bahru to Jakarta, from Rp149,999 one way Kuala Lumpur –Bandung, from Rp 299,999 one way Kuala Lumpur-Surabaya. The fares, excluding airport taxes and fees, are for travel from the launch date to May 15. Tickets must be purchased between March 15 to 30. As has been done in Malaysia and Thailand, AirAsia will set up a Call Centre in Indonesia. Telephone bookings through the Call Centre can be paid by cash or credit card. AirAsia has also partnered Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) to offer the additional option for travellers to make cash payments at the bank for their telephone bookings via AirAsia’s Call Centre. Customers can also book seats via AirAsia’s website at www.airasia.com, currently available in five languages (English, Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin, Tamil and Thai). The Indonesian version of the website, incorporating Bahasa Indonesia, will be added by the middle of this month. Meanwhile, AirAsia will open up walk-in sales offices at the respective airport(s) as an added option for its customers to purchase tickets. It will also appoint authorised local sales agents to facilitate sales of seats for the low fare airline. Commenting on the new flights to Indonesia AirAsia chief executive officer, Tony Fernandes, said, Indonesia was a natural progression in line with the company’s policy to build AirAsia as an ASEAN brand.
