Tourism ministers from Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam will meet in Ho Chi Minh City in late August to assess progress on plans for a “Three Countries, One Destination” programme.
A joint action plan to encourage more intra-regional travel will have, at its core, tourism packages featuring three-day itineraries in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
It’s also hoped that a cross border visa programme will encourage wider international visitation. Promotional activities will include familiarisation trips and cultural, sports and food events in which the private sector will be encouraged to participate.
The three countries will also work towards less complicated cross border travel for tourists.
Separately, the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism have signed a memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation.
The MoU seeks to improve the quality of human resources in the tourism sector, and attract more investment to drive tourism activities between the two countries.
The two sides agreed to make it easier for people to drive from Cambodia to Laos and vice versa through simplified immigration procedures at border crossings.
