COLOMBO - Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has settled on a standard set of Covid-19 protocols and procedures for hotels, DMCs and other industry partners.
The authority believes the island-wide measures, guided by advice from the island’s Ministry of Health and World Health Organization (WHO), will reassure travellers that Sri Lanka is a safe destination to visit.
Sri Lanka Tourism says the measures adopted will not cause unnecessary inconvenience to tourists and industry stakeholders.
Under the new health and safety regime, Sri Lanka will allow all nationalities and all types of travellers, whether groups, families, or individuals, to enter the country from 1 August.
There will be no quarantine on arrival but visitors will face up to three Covid-19 tests during their stay – on arrival at the airport, 4-5 days after arrival from a mobile testing unit at their certified accommodation, and a further test for those staying longer than 10 days.
Visitors will need to book private transportation in advance as the use of public transport will be discouraged.
All travellers will require a valid visa; this will be issued for 30 days and extendable for up to six months after arrival.
There will be no travel restrictions between districts for tourists.
As of 7 June, Sri Lanka had recorded 1814 cases of Covid-19, with 891 recoveries, 912 active cases and 11 deaths,
