Fears of further violent demonstrations in France following last weekend’s student protests in Paris and beyond have seen tour companies scrambling to ensure the safety of their clients by keeping them clear of known trouble spots.
A second round of protests against the central government’s management of the economy has been called across France on Saturday, 24 October and a general strike planned for 5 November could affect transport corridors.
Government travel websites are advising visitors to France to “exercise a high degree of caution” and be aware that authorities may impose public safety measures, including partial and localised night curfews, in some locations.
Beyond Paris, there were heavy clashes and property damage last weekend in Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux and Lille.
Major sites in Paris such as The Louvre, Orsay museum and the Eiffel Tower have faced emergency closures after being blockaded by protestors.
A spokesperson for Atout France said, “Out of precaution, travellers are asked to check official information for the cities they are going to visit before travelling.”
