More tourism sites relating to China’s revolutionary history will be opened to the public for free as part of efforts to promote “red tourism”.
China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism said efforts would focus on museums showcasing China’s revolutionary history. It would also develop more cultural products of the revolutionary relics.
Red tourism sites will be encouraged to attract more students and party members, Xinhua reported.
There are currently 33,315 revolutionary sites and relics on record, with statistics showing more than 800 million red tourism trips on average each year.
One of the sites is located in the city of Jinggangshan in east China’s Jiangxi Province. The city was the centre of early revolutionary activities of the Communist Party of China.
There, tourists can be dressed in Red Army uniforms and trace the steps of revolutionary figures, where they once lived and worked.
The site has been popular with tourists. More than 10 million tourists have flocked to Jinggangshan over the first 10 months in 2018, generating tourism revenue of more than 10 billion yuan (US$1.49 billion), up almost 10% year on year, according to local government figures.
