Bali is not short of stunning wedding venues – from dedicated
facilities at six-star hotels to more informal locations at beaches and
villages across the island.
No wonder Bali has just been named one of the top wedding destinations in the world in 2024, following a recent survey.
Now couples have another reason to tie the knot in Bali. The
community of Pelaga Village in Bandung province has made its Nungnung
Waterfall available for wedding ceremonies.
Located 34km from Ubud, the near 50m-high waterfall offers a
spectacular backdrop for a wedding but be warned, there are hundreds of
steps to navigate to reach the pool at the foot of the waterfall.
Locals hope a waterfall ceremony will attract those who want a
nature-inspired ceremony, and at the same time bring an economic boost
to nearby Balinese villages.
Sang Nyoman Sutena, head of the Nungnung Traditional Village, said
that he and his community plan to invest more in making the area
attractive to couples.
“Culturally, we are planning for developments, for example, like
weddings. We want to package it with the location; there will be dances,
there will be music.”
He confirmed that couples are encouraged to conduct nuptials at the
waterfall in alignment with their own culture but that couples can
arrange traditional Balinese blessings to be conducted after their vows,
though not traditional Balinese-Hindu wedding ceremonies.
