When Silversea Cruises’ newest ship, Silver Nova, sets sail in summer 2023, it is slated to mark a new era of greener cruising.
Silver Nova will predate the rest of its future sister ships under
Silversea Cruises’ latest Nova class in featuring a hybrid power source
model that allows for emission-free operation in port and the use of
liquefied natural gas that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40%
compared to the cruise line’s Muse class.
A micro auto gasification system will also reduce onboard waste
volume, in turn lowering incineration emissions for Silver Nova. The
cruise line’s newest ship along with all Nova class ships after it are
expected to achieve an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) rating of
25% more than what the International Maritime Organization (IMO)
requires.
“Our Nova class ships represent a significant investment in
unprecedented technological solutions. They support our mission to
preserve the planet without compromising on comfort or luxury,” says
Roberto Martinoli, president and CEO of Silversea Cruises. “Silver Nova
is the manifestation of Silversea and Royal Caribbean Group’s long-term
commitment to sustainability.”
In addition to serving to a new growing clientele of customers who
demand for sustainability to be integrated in their travel experiences,
Silver Nova’s facilities aims to also tap into the luxury travel
segment.

The 364 suites can accommodate a total of 728 guests, with more than
one crew member for every guest. Suites range in size from 33sqm to
123sqm, featuring contemporary luxury furnishings such as walk-in
wardrobes with jewellery compartments; large vanity counters with duo
wash basins; walk-in showers; bathtubs; and floor-to-ceiling windows
spanning the length of the cabin that faces out into the sea.
The largest accommodation that encompasses 123sqm is the Otium Suite
that comes outfitted with an aft-facing private balcony where guests can
take in the 270-degree view of the ocean either from the lounge chairs
or jacuzzi. There’s a second jacuzzi in the bathroom, and other spaces
include a living area, dining area, kitchenette, study corner and a
sea-facing bedroom.
“Marking a new era in ultra-luxury cruise travel, the Silver Nova
suite experience represents an evolution of Silversea’s industry-leading
offering,” says Barbara Muckermann, chief commercial officer of
Silversea Cruises. “Not only will Silver Nova surpass our guests’
expectations in terms of comfort, but she will be one of the most
environmentally conscious cruise ships ever built, paving the way for
the future of ultra-luxury, sustainable cruising.”
