Mitsui Ocean Cruises has brought Mitsui Ocean Sakura into service, expanding its fleet to two ships alongside Mitsui Ocean Fuji, which debuted in December 2024. The new addition was named at Yokohama’s Shinko Pier Cruise Terminal on 16 September and departed on its maiden voyage from the city three days later.

Operated by MOL Cruises, the Japanese-registered ship has 229 ocean-view suites and capacity for 458 guests. It will primarily sail short- and medium-length round trips from ports around Japan, with 29 inaugural cruises scheduled through December 2026.

The vessel formerly sailed as Seabourn’s Seabourn Sojourn. On board, guests will find five restaurants, three bars, a spa and three pools. New features include Sushi Bar Shiosai, serving sushi paired with sake, and a footbath beside the Grand Pool.

Mitsui Ocean Sakura succeeds MOL Cruises’ Nippon Maru, which retired after 35 years of service. MOL Cruises president Tsunemichi Mukai said the company wanted to deliver “special and unforgettable experiences” aboard the new ship.
