Embarking on a culinary journey with Silversea's S.A.L.T. (Sea and
Land Taste) programme is not just a travel experience; it's a full
immersion into the heart and soul of each destination. From 2024 to 2026
and beyond, Silversea is offering a series of Asian voyages that
promise to tantalise taste buds and connect guests with the rich
culinary cultures of Asia.
Stirring up culinary fun at the Kitchen, Bar, and Lab
The comprehensive S.A.L.T. culinary programme is offered aboard
Silver Moon, Silver Dawn, and Silver Nova and delves into the stories,
seasonality, and communities behind each dish. This initiative
transforms dining into an exploration, with the goal to balance and
preserve holiday memories.

One standout feature of the S.A.L.T. programme is the S.A.L.T. Kitchen,
a dynamic restaurant that adapts its menu daily to showcase the diverse
array of dishes reflecting the local flavors and ingredients of each
port of call.
The culinary adventure extends to the S.A.L.T. Bar,
where unique cocktails inspired by local customs and ingredients take
centre stage, accompanied by an impressive selection of local wines,
spirits, and beers.
The S.A.L.T. Lab, a culinary workshop, elevates the
experience further by allowing guests to engage directly with local
produce and deepen their understanding of Asia's diverse food cultures
through hands-on cooking classes.
S.A.L.T. Lab spices up Singapore
During the Silver Moon's stopover in Singapore on 29 February 2024, I
immersed myself in Silversea's extensive S.A.L.T. programme,
particularly through the S.A.L.T. Lab experience. As someone more
accustomed to traditional cruise activities, the idea of a cooking class
at sea intrigued me. Guided by the skilled chef host, Gustavo Cruz, my
group of media counterparts, predominantly consisting of Singaporeans,
shared a curiosity about how well Silversea could capture the essence of
our local dishes.

Our culinary adventure featured chicken curry kapitan, a Peranakan
curry, and nasi lemak, a beloved coconut rice dish in Singapore and
Malaysia. Donning aprons, we gathered around individual stoves as Chef
Cruz not only led us through the cooking process but also delved into
the rich history and origins of Peranakan cuisine.
The hands-on experience seamlessly blended education and
entertainment, offering insights into the traditional cooking techniques
of Southeast Asia. Chef Cruz had prepared spice blends in advance,
allowing us to sizzle fragrant spices with oil. Adding chicken and other
ingredients from dainty dishes created a symphony of aromas filling the
S.A.L.T. Lab.
The class's most striking aspect was the harmonious integration of
learning and enjoyment. Provided with recipes for recreation at home,
the authentic satisfaction derived from the taste, especially when
paired with perfectly seasoned nasi lemak, transported us to the
bustling markets of Singapore.
Silversea's commitment to infusing the soul of places through its
cuisines resonated throughout the S.A.L.T. Lab experience. It went
beyond a mere cooking session; it evolved into a journey into the heart
of Peranakan culture, fostering a newfound appreciation for the
intricate flavours of Asia. This hands-on culinary experience
highlighted Silversea's commitment to turning dining into an
exploration, fully immersing guests in the vibrant destinations visited
by its ships.
