On 1 January 2024, Adora Cruises celebrated the maiden voyage of Adora Magic City, China's first domestically crafted large cruise ship, crafted by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Corp.

Departing from Shanghai's Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal, the ship's maiden voyage showcased a fusion of Eastern and Western cultures.

Following the boarding of passengers, the Adora Magic City embarked on its maiden voyage at dusk amid celebrations, on a 7-day voyage to various ports including South Korea's Jeju and Japan's Fukuoka and Nagasaki.

The Adora Magic City spans 323.6 metres with a tonnage of 135,500 tons, accommodates 5,246 guests in its 2,125 rooms and suites. It is the first of two vessels under construction by the corporation, with the second ship anticipated to surpass it in size at 142,000 gross tons.

“Launching the Adora Magic City's maiden voyage at the start of the new year signifies our best wishes for guests and our confidence in China's cruise industry,” Adora Cruises said in a press release. “Adora Cruises is committed to refining services for an exceptional guest experience.”

Adora Cruises was formerly known as CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited, a joint venture between China Shipbuilding Corp. and Carnival Corp.

Adora Magic City's launch coincides with cruise lines refocusing on Asia post-pandemic. Plans to expand in the region include Royal Caribbean International's return to China after a four-year hiatus, offering four- and five-day voyages aboard the Spectrum of the Seas departing from Shanghai.
