One Asia headquarters shifts to Bangkok

JAKARTA - Regional tour operator alliance One Asia Travel Group has announced it will shift its headquarters from Jakarta to Bangkok.

CEO Alfred Tonkiss told TravelWeekly that since he took over the new full-time role in January, it was agreed to open a One Asia corporate office inside the Bangkok office of Thai partner Turismo Thai.

"Apart from the fact that I had personally hoped to return to Thailand with my Thai wife to live after an absence of 27 years, it makes good logistical sense to base our 'head office' there.

The move marks an end to Tonkiss' five-year tenure alongside Panorama Leisure Group, culminating in its successful public listing.

However, the involvement will continue through OneAsia.

With the regional operator having recently announced a region-wide relaunch of Panorama's Shocking Offers campaign to restart regional operations, Tonkiss is likely to hit the ground running when he arrives in the Thai capital - putting paid to his quips that he might soon need to slow down.

"At 65, I suppose I should think about slowing down a little. But not too much mind you!"
