MANILA - The Department of Tourism (DoT), with partner agencies and the private sector, is paving the way to institutionalise medical tourism in the country by coming up with rules and regulations for the accreditation of health establishments, wellness centers and hospitals in the country, using DoT’s standards for hotels as benchmark.
Chiqui Teotico, Philippine Travel Agencies Association vice president for inbound, said the medical tourism packages could be ready for launch by May this year. The Philippine Conventions and Visitors Corporation will be printing brochures, which will be disseminated overseas in travel marts and trade missions.
Pagdanganan said the Philippines is among the few countries in Asia to offer such specialised tour programmes.
