With the luxury hospitality space brimming with so many top-notched resorts, it takes more than an exotic locale to win the hearts of judges, and to get our attention.
JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, which opened this year, has emerged as ‘Asia’s leading new resort’ at the 24th Annual World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia.
With the luxury hospitality space brimming with so many top-notched resorts, it takes more than an exotic locale to win the hearts of judges, and to get our attention.
Don’t get us wrong though. The 224-room property is located on a pristine white sand beach along the craggy Vietnamese coastline in the south, and is in fact the first international luxury hotel brand to be based on the island.
But what’s most interesting is how its design, conceived by legendary architect Bill Bensley, is based on a fictional former university for French colonists.
Think early-20th century architecture with traditional French colonial elements, and university-themed spaces such as as ‘Department of Physical Education’ (the gym) and running track, and the ‘Department of Chemistry’ – which experiments mainly with alcohol-based concoctions.
