YANGON - Thailand's Dusit Hotels & Resorts will take over the management of the historic Inya Lake Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar, on December 15 this year.

The 42-year-old hotel, managed under the Renaissance by Marriott International since 1995, will be renamed Dusit Inya Lake Resort.

Sources told TravelWeekly that Marriott was put under pressure by the Myanmar Action Group to discontinue management of the hotel after it clinched a corporate contract to operate restaurants in universities in the US.

Chanok Shaisiri, group director of sales and marketing of Royal Princess Hotels & Resorts, said with hotels running at an average of 30 percent occupancy in Myanmar, there was opportunity to increase the leisure and business segment at the hotel.

Dusit also plans to add a Devaraan Spa to the 211-room hotel, situated 15 minutes from Yangon airport.

The Thai group unveiled the Devaraan Spa concept in its flagship Bangkok property last year and plans to add spas in its hotels in Pattaya and Hua Hin as well.
