Doha wins bid to host 2006 Asian Games

PUSAN – A dark horse has pulled the rug from Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong and won the bid to host the 2006 Asian Games.

Delegates from 41 member countries of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) voted in favour of Doha, capital of the Gulf state of Qatar at their general assembly here yesterday.

Doha unexpectedly clinched 22 votes in the second round of voting while Kuala Lumpur received 13 and Hong Kong only six.
