BALI - The Chedi brand will reappear in Bali next year in a move by GHM Hotels to expand within Asia and beyond to the Middle East and the United States.

The Chedi brand disappeared from Bali last year when the owners of the Chedi Ubud and The Serai - another GHM-managed hotel - opted to form their own hotel management company and rebrand the hotels as Alila resorts.

A 23 pool villa complex located on Jimbaran Beach is scheduled to open at the end of 2004 as The Chedi Club. The design concept is similar to GHM's The Club at The Legian in Seminyak.

Hans Meier, general manager of The Legian, is overseeing the property.

GHM has recently opened the Chedi Muscat in Oman, and The Lalu, Sun Moon Lake, in Taiwan. It is also developing a new beach hotel in south Miami.

The 161 rooms and suites Chedi Muscat beach resort is a key addition to the GHM stable. It will establish the Chedi profile in the Middle East and could be the forerunner of other hotel developments in the region by GHM.

Oman is tipped to be one of the Arabian Gulf's hot destinations. It is taking advantage of the tourism growth to neighbouring Dubai to promote its own culture and unique landscapes.

Says See Soo Eng, GHM director of sales & marketing, "Oman is a significant entry port for GHM into Middle East and ultimately into the Mediterranean. The Chedi Muscat is a unique product and when a suitable site and partner is found, further expansion into Middle East is expected."
