Location and History

The prominent hotel opened in 1870 to support and expand the newly booming luxury tourist industry in Lucerne. The luxurious hotel really started to take off in the late 1870s when Cesar Ritz, founder of Ritz hotel dynasty, took over management.

This was Mr. Ritz's proving grounds before he moved to London's Savoy, then later, the Ritz in Paris. He increased the hotel's luxury, perfected the service and hired legendary chef, Auguste Escoffier in 1881. Mr....
