The Melaka state government, when announcing the change, said it was “to standardise the use of the name ‘Melaka’ whether in writing or when mentioning in the media, especially in English.”

'Malacca', in its English form, will no longer be used for this Malaysian state, and will be replaced with the name 'Melaka'.

The Melaka state government, when announcing the change, said it was “to standardise the use of the name ‘Melaka’ whether in writing or when mentioning in the media, especially in English.”

The English spelling of the state will no longer be used in official state correspondence.
