AirAsia Indonesia, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s AirAsia Bread, is looking to open new routes to Asian countries such as China, South Korea and Japan.

A starting date has not yet been announced, according to AirAsia Indonesia president director Dendy Kurniawan in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, The Jakarta Post reported.

The company is considering both options for direction flights as well as routing flights through either Malaysia or Thailand.

“For flights to Tokyo, for example, we will open connecting flights through Bangkok, as one of our main hubs,” Kurniawan explained, adding that AirAsia Indonesia was supported by Airbus A320 and Airbus A330 planes that have flight times of four hours and 12 hours, respectively.

He added, that for the routes to East Asia, the planes generally transited in Kuala Lumpur.

Kurniawan said AirAsia Indonesia was developing medical care tourism in collaboration with the Healthcare Travel Council and Malaysian Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) to serve Indonesians who want to have medical treatment abroad.
