Opposition continues to
grow to a dolphin show in a swimming pool in Bali.
A Sydney
surfer has started a Change.org petition to shut down the show that
features four dolphins performing in a chlorinated pool measuring 10 metres by 20
metres.
The Wake
Bali Dolphins tourist attraction charges adult visitors US$110 and children
US$100 to swim with the dolphins. “After
initial protests when Wake Bali opened last July, the resort still remains open
and the dolphins remain trapped in a tiny chlorinated pool,” said surfer Craig Brokensha.
Brokensha wrote in his
petition, “This is a request
for Wake Bali Dolphins to free the dolphins and allow them to be re-introduced
into the wild, where they belong.”
He said a similar dolphin
facility was closed down two years ago by government authorities, who pledged
to close any other dolphin attraction sites.
Wake Bali Dolphins told the
Herald Sun newspaper in Australia that it was a government-approved tourist
attraction and the pool had been checked by authorities.
