SYDNEY - A range of heavily-discounted holidays will mark the launch of a new Thai Airways International flight from Sydney and Melbourne to Phuket.

THAI's marketing manager Australia, Sue Marr, said the new Phuket flight had created intense interest and was certain to open up a vast market for Australians in one of Asia's top holiday spots.

The Phuket flight (TG980) departs Sydney at 10.20 p.m. on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays (from October 26). Melbourne passengers join TG 980 for a 1.15 am departure (Thursdays. Sundays and Mondays) and fly non-stop to Phuket arriving at 5.55 a.m.

The aircraft, a Boeing 747, then flies on to Bangkok, arriving at 8.30 a.m.

Return flights from Bangkok to Sydney are non-stop twice-daily.

Non-stop Bangkok/Melbourne services operate five days a week with an additional seven flights a week via Sydney.
